Who we are
I'm James Wooton, founder and Managing Director of Ascend Services Group. I started my career as a plumbing and heating engineer over 18 years ago, working my way through the trades before moving into high-level project management and energy consultancy. That hands-on background is what sets Ascend apart — I understand industrial and commercial energy systems from the ground up, not just from a spreadsheet.
Over the years I've delivered complex M&E projects, led multi-million pound capital programmes, and advised industrial clients on everything from energy procurement to decarbonisation strategy. I hold EPC assessment qualifications and have worked across manufacturing, logistics, data centres, and large commercial estates.
Ascend exists because most consultancies either have the engineering knowledge or the commercial strategy — rarely both. I built it to bridge that gap: giving clients genuinely independent, technically grounded advice that protects their capital and their operations.
